Tigers deal Maroth to Cardinals: report
Reports are surfacing that the Detroit Tigers — in need of clearing a roster spot for the return of veteran starter Kenny Rogers — have dealt Mike Maroth to the pitching-depleted St. Louis Cardinals, according to the St. Louis Dispatch. In return, the infamous “player to be named later” will be coming back to Motown. Maroth, who never did fit current general manager Dave Domrowski’s profile of a power pitcher, was woeful this year in his attempt to reclaim his regular turn in the rotation following his missing much of last season following surgery to remove bone chips in his pitching elbow. He currently sits with a generous 5-2 record — coupled with a 5.02 ERA.
