Boras’ best of nine Series best for baseball?
Longer World Series: Home run or wild pitch for baseball fans?
Superagent Steve Boras has proposed shifting the World Series from a best of seven back to its original best of nine — with one major change: the first two games would be held at a neutral site, similar to the Super Bowl, with cities bidding for the event from year to year. Further, to enhance the buzz around the weekend, Boras further proposes the idea of announcing the MVP, Cy Young, Rookie of the Year and Manager of the Year on that particular Friday in a televised event, with each league’s respective top five candidates in attendance.
The Heckler is all for it, really — provided the chop a couple games off the regular season (say, five less) and ensure everything would wrap up by the end of October. The idea of a longer series would allow for fewer upsets (cough, cough - Cardinals, 2006) and make for that many more special moments. The neutral site idea for a couple of games is equally as intruiging. Sounds like a winner of an idea, however, The Heckler also feels this is just the kind of idea that Bud Selig will be against, unfortunately. Too radical.

I’d love the nine game series, but my wife on the other hand not so much. Might be divorce time if it went the full nine. I’ve only got one TV.

I’m holdin’ out for a best of 11, myself. As soon as baseball’s over, hockey’s frequency of games just quite pick up the slack. Then I’m FORCED to talk to my wife more . . . and no guy really wants that, do they?
